Job Description

To direct and control all production, quality control, engineering and maintenance operations of the affiliate to ensure that business objectives are met efficiently and effectively and as per the company’s quality standards and standard operating procedures.

  • Ensure that the Manufacturing department meets and implements the company’s standard manufacturing procedures and standard operating procedures and practices.
  • Control the Manufacturing department budget, while striving at all times to manage workforce utilization and process controls and optimization
  • Coach and lead all Manufacturing employees to maximize optimal cost reduction initiatives.
  • Responsible for the consolidation of engineering, maintenance, quality control and production budgets to ensure the affiliate’s business objectives are met at optimal cost.
  • Direct employees to ensure that the manufacturing department’s objectives are met at all times as per guidelines set by the Managing Director.
  • Responsible for the  effectiveness and efficiency of quality control, maintenance and production departments and thereby optimizing stock levels of finished products and safety stocks are in accordance with the rolling forecast at all times to meet local and export market needs in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Maintain high levels of coordination and communication with other department heads.
  • Coordinate with planning and purchasing departments to consolidate the required needs to support the production requirements of the department.
  • Provides prompt, thorough, and accurate monthly reports to keep the management appropriately informed of the manufacturing department’s performance with respect to productivity (operational efficiency), quality (market returns due to factory quality defects), waste, resource planning (manpower planning, overtime), equipment downtime, inventory control of finished goods and spare parts, performance related to various energy consumptions; safety and hygiene; actual versus budgeted reconciliation, and any other reports requested by managements.
  • Develops KPIs to measure the effectiveness of QC, maintenance, engineering, and production departments in accordance with the affiliate’s business objectives.
  • Ensure that health, safety and environment policies and procedures are followed and implemented in accordance with the set quality standards and various statutory bodies (environment, health, safety, labor etc.).
  • Develop and execute the yearly manufacturing plan to achieve the business objectives related to production volumes, costs, quality, etc.
  • Optimize and analyze finished goods inventory in conjunction with the rolling forecast of local sales as well as export demand taking into consideration the capacities of the available production lines and also optimizing spare parts inventory and manufacturing consumables consumption, and alert the MD on capacity constraints.
  • Actively participate, support and supervise methodologies for processes, quality and products improvements, reconfiguration, and launching with the QA and R&D departments and as directed by the MD.
  • Ensure that the development, evaluation, improvement of manufacturing processes are properly documented and applied.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of manufacturing process control techniques and procedures.
  • Direct the manufacturing department in analyzing the manufacturing process flows to ensure the continuous improvement of quality, cost reduction, and throughput.
  • Initiate plans and processes which minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of the workforce, equipment, facilities, materials, and budget. 
  • Improve safety record by addressing both physical and employee safety issues as well as housekeeping in all areas.
  • Ensure that QC, maintenance, engineering, and production are operating in harmony and are directed towards achieving the manufacturing department’s goals and objectives.
  • Conduct performance appraisal for direct reports and ensure that the same is done effectively and in a timely manner for all the members of the operations department.
  • Ensure that local labor, employment, and union (if applicable) laws, contracts, regulations, are honored and any statutory requirements are adhered to whilst maintain high motivation levels amongst the manufacturing department’s employees and workers.
  • Propose and implement work processes, procedures, and technical resources in accordance with engineering policies, key principles, and the project management activities and practice.
  • Coordinate and direct personnel (e.g., other project managers, project engineers, technicians, consultants, contractors, etc.) to ensure projects’ objectives are satisfied.
  • Propose and control the projects in accordance with the established and set key performance indicators (especially with regards to budget, completion time, and quality).
  • Ensure that the procedures for protecting Gandour’s technological and proprietary know-how are in place and effectively implemented.
  • Ensure that all projects are designed for long term profitability and result in a positive impact on the Company’s (ROIC).
  • Challenge supporting documentation (even if it is provided by other functions) to ensure compliance and adherence to established guidelines and procedures.
  • Prepare the Projects’ budget for approval in accordance with the guidelines for Capital Investment.
  • Ensure that the design is directed towards optimum cost, highly efficient and flexible operation.
  • Maintain a safe work site at all times and ensure installations are easy to operate, clean and maintain, as well as guaranteed after commissioning the safe, consistent manufacturing/storage of quality products.
  • Ensure that a progress report is prepared for all projects on a monthly basis and that the project scope is achieved within the agreed budget and deadline.
  • Manage the allocation of all expenditures of clearly defined assets for the purpose of the entry into the assets register.
  • Oversee the completion of the project file and ensure it appropriately filed and also submit the final project report to management in a timely manner.
