Job Description:**Job Description: Safety Operations Superintendent**

The Safety Operations Superintendent is accountable for the comprehensive oversight and management of the organization’s safety programs, ensuring a secure, compliant, and risk-minimized work environment. This leadership position encompasses the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety policies and procedures, the diligent execution of safety inspections and audits, and the strict enforcement of all applicable safety regulations and standards. The Superintendent will spearhead incident investigations, provide comprehensive safety training, and cultivate a pervasive culture of safety across the organization. Key responsibilities include the meticulous management of safety compliance, the development and maintenance of emergency preparedness protocols, and the accurate and timely maintenance of all safety-related records.

**Responsibilities:**

* Develop, implement, and continuously improve comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
* Conduct regular and rigorous safety inspections and audits of facilities and job sites to proactively identify potential hazards, ensure adherence to established safety standards, and recommend and oversee the implementation of corrective actions.
* Lead and direct thorough investigations into workplace incidents and accidents, meticulously analyze root causes, and implement robust corrective measures to prevent future occurrences.
* Create and deliver engaging and informative safety training sessions and develop comprehensive educational materials for employees at all levels, ensuring thorough understanding and strict adherence to safety practices and emergency procedures.
* Maintain a current and comprehensive understanding of evolving safety regulations and standards, ensure the organization’s ongoing compliance, and prepare and submit all required reports and documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
* Develop and oversee comprehensive emergency response plans, conduct regular drills to assess effectiveness, and ensure all employees are adequately prepared to respond effectively to a wide range of emergency situations.
* Foster a robust and proactive safety culture by actively promoting safety awareness, encouraging proactive safety behaviours at all levels, and addressing any and all safety concerns promptly and effectively.
* Maintain meticulous and up-to-date records of all safety inspections, incident reports, training activities, and compliance documentation to ensure transparency and accountability.
* Collaborate closely with management, supervisors, and employees to provide expert guidance on safety-related issues, support the effective implementation of safety measures, and address any safety concerns or inquiries.
* Ensure the proper use and maintenance of all safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE), and make informed recommendations for improvements as needed to enhance safety and efficiency.
* Plan and conduct internal safety audits to ensure full compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements, and prepare detailed audit reports with actionable recommendations for continuous improvement.
* Monitor compliance with established management system standards (e.g., ISM Code, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
* Encourage and promote the adoption of best practices throughout the company’s operations to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
* Maintain a robust awareness and understanding of industry benchmarking and best-in-class performance standards to ensure long-term business competitiveness and operational excellence.
* Fulfill all Health & Safety responsibilities as specifically identified in the Responsibilities and Accountabilities section of the Health & Safety Program.

**Qualifications:**

* Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, or a related field is required.

**Experience:**

* A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in the specific industry or sector is required to ensure familiarity with relevant safety standards and regulations.
* Prior experience in a supervisory or managerial role with a focus on safety is highly beneficial.
* Demonstrated experience managing safety on large-scale projects or across multiple sites is highly valuable, particularly for roles within larger organizations or complex projects.
* Experience with safety management software and tools for tracking incidents, inspections, and compliance is essential.

**Skills:**

* Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, applicable local and national safety standards, and industry-specific safety requirements.
* Proven ability to identify, evaluate, and effectively mitigate safety hazards through comprehensive risk assessments and safety audits.
* Exceptional skills in conducting thorough and objective investigations into workplace incidents, analyzing root causes, and recommending effective corrective actions.
* Proficiency in developing and implementing comprehensive emergency response plans, conducting realistic drills, and managing crisis situations effectively.
* Strong problem-solving abilities with a demonstrated capacity to address complex safety issues, develop innovative solutions, and implement effective corrective actions.
* Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in conducting inspections, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
* Analytical skills to analyse safety data and trends, identifying areas for improvement and measuring the effectiveness of safety programs.
* Clear, concise, and effective verbal and written communication skills to deliver impactful safety training, report on safety issues, and interact effectively with employees and regulatory agencies.
* Strong interpersonal skills to foster positive working relationships with employees at all levels, effectively manage safety committees, and resolve safety-related conflicts.
* Proven ability to lead and motivate teams, effectively manage safety personnel, and foster a strong culture of safety within the organization.
* Exceptional skills in developing and delivering engaging and effective safety training programs, and providing clear guidance and support to employees on safety practices.
* Demonstrated capability to manage multiple safety projects and initiatives simultaneously, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet deadlines consistently.
* Proficiency in maintaining accurate, organized, and readily accessible safety records, documentation, and reports.

**Professional Certifications:**

* Relevant professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), or similar credentials are required and may influence the level of experience required.
