Job Description:**Job Description: Senior Materials & Coatings Engineer**
**Overview:**
The Senior Materials & Coatings Engineer leverages advanced knowledge and industry best practices to enhance the Materials & Coatings discipline within McDermott. This role serves as a technical resource for colleagues, providing conceptual and practical guidance related to materials and coatings engineering. The incumbent addresses complex engineering challenges, applying specialized knowledge to improve related products and services. This position impacts customer, operational, project, and service activities within the Materials & Coatings team and related departments, ensuring adherence to relevant guidelines and policies. Prior experience in offshore-related projects is required.
**Responsibilities:**
* Conduct conceptual, FEED, and detailed design analyses, adhering to project scopes of work, design bases, project documentation, design codes and standards, and McDermott procedures, within established schedules and budgets.
* Provide leadership and direction to engineering teams as a Lead Engineer on smaller projects.
* Apply comprehensive business acumen and innovative thinking to address problems and non-standard situations, escalating concerns to the Lead Piping Engineer in a timely manner.
* Develop detailed design calculations and analyses, including the preparation of comprehensive design reports and procedures.
* Manage personal workload to meet agreed-upon deadlines and budgetary constraints, developing short-term work plans for assigned tasks.
* Communicate and explain complex technical issues effectively to foster understanding.
* Ensure clear identification of project interfaces and deliverables.
* Employ industry best practices and knowledge of internal and external factors to drive continuous improvement of products and services.
* Maintain a strong focus on adherence to health and safety policies and procedures.
* Develop a thorough understanding of project scopes of work, specifications, schedules, and inter-disciplinary requirements.
* Collaborate with other departments to obtain necessary input for engineering and design activities.
* Interface with High-Value Centers (HVECs) to ensure a shared understanding of scope of work.
* Support 3D model reviews at 30%, 60%, and 90% completion milestones.
* Identify scope changes and promptly submit notifications.
* Alert the team to any deviations from the scope of work or the need for change orders.
* Prepare design philosophies, specifications, pipe supports, standard detail drawings, material take-offs (MTOs), and material requisitions according to project scopes of work and contracts.
* Articulate difficult or sensitive information constructively to facilitate understanding.
* Maintain a thorough understanding of Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), line lists, equipment lists, layouts, piping specifications, and design bases.
* Work independently, seeking guidance only when necessary.
* Serve as a technical resource and mentor for less experienced colleagues.
**Reporting Structure:**
* Project-related: Reports to the Lead Piping Engineer, Project Engineer, or Project Engineering Manager (when serving as Lead Piping Engineer).
* Functional: Reports to the Department Manager.

**Qualifications:**

Skills:
Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
8-15 years of experience in oil and gas with a major contractor or consultants predominantly performing detail design
Preferably Registered Professional Engineer or member of a professional engineering society
Flexible for Business Travelling
Committed to McDermott values
Detailed knowledge of Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design Phases of Projects
Detailed knowledge and experience of design techniques and application of standards, codes, and guidelines
Familiar with all Piping Sub-Disciplines including Design and Modelling, Pipe Stress & Support, Piping Material Engineering, and MTO activities and deliverables
Knowledgeable in project coordination and execution skills
Conversant with international codes and standards like ANSI, ASME, API, BS, NFPA, etc.
Familiar with SP3D / E3D / Navisworks
Familiar with stick-built and modularization approach
