Job Description:**Position Announcement: Research Assistant (Remote, Short-Term, Paid)**

A Research Assistant is required for a two-month remote project concerning international affairs and policy research. The work directly supports an academic project investigating representation, influence, and public engagement within prominent think tanks participating in international affairs and policy discourse across the Middle East and adjacent regions. This role offers the successful candidate an opportunity to develop familiarity with regional think tanks, their activities, and their engagement with the international affairs, academic, and policy communities. (Applications are invited from recent graduates or current senior-year students in political science.)

**Job Description:**

The primary responsibility of the Research Assistant will be to contribute to the development of a structured database pertaining to think tank activity within the specified region. This entails the collection and organization of data, including event titles, guest names, discussion topics, and summaries, and the accurate entry of this information into Excel in a consistent format. This position demands meticulous attention to detail, a task-driven approach, and a capacity for managing repetitive, yet critical, data processing activities.

Due to the substantial workload associated with this role, consistent focus, discipline, and accountability are paramount. A strong and sustained work ethic is essential; any indication of neglect or disengagement will result in immediate termination of employment.

**Responsibilities include:**

* Extracting data from websites and documents.
* Transferring event information and attendee names into Excel spreadsheets.
* Locating contact information (e.g., email addresses, website URLs).
* Structuring database entries in a clear and precise manner.

Skills:

  • Very good with Excel and Word
  • Excellent at conducting online searches and navigating websites effectively
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to follow instructions and formatting standards
  • Stable, high-speed internet connection without interruptions, with sufficient bandwidth for regular work files uploads and downloads
  • Applicants with strong academic records (high GPA or equivalent) will be highly prioritized
  • Daily written summary of work completed and log of time in/out required

This is a full-time position. The workweek is Sunday to Thursday, though occasional adjustments may be required based on project needs (e.g., shifting a workday to Friday or Saturday when necessary; sufficient prior notice will always be given).

Work schedule is somewhat flexible; however, applicants must be available for communication during the afternoon and evening (Cairo time) and responsive throughout the workday. This is not a task-based freelance role—ongoing availability, consistent daily engagement, and commitment are required. Daily progress reports must be submitted.
