Job Description

The Pharmacist is responsible for ensuring the delivery of superior quality medical treatment and compassionate care to all patients at the NMC Hospitals and Clinics. They are responsible for accurately and promptly delivering medications to patients, reviewing and processing physician’s orders and patient medication profiles, and providing drug information to healthcare professionals and patients. The Pharmacist also plays a key role in orienting new staff and participating in the counseling and training of pharmacy students. They must ensure the accuracy and proper storage of medications, maintain confidentiality and security of patient information, and comply with hospital policies and professional pharmacy standards.

Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure prompt and accurate delivery of medications to patients.
  2. Review and process physician’s orders and patient medication profiles.
  3. Provide drug information to healthcare professionals and patients.
  4. Orient new staff and participate in the counseling and training of pharmacy students.
  5. Ensure appropriate and accurate filling of prescriptions with detailed instructions.
  6. Review patient profiles for drug interactions, allergies, and diet restrictions.
  7. Prepare medicines for inpatients based on the unit dose system.
  8. Calculate doses for IV admixtures, TPN, and compounding cytotoxic drugs.
  9. Participate in computerized charging, verification, and modification of inpatient medication.
  10. Provide current and accurate drug information to healthcare professionals.
  11. Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information.
  12. Estimate monthly controlled drug requirements and initiate storehouse orders.
  13. Participate in continuing education to stay updated on pharmaceuticals and techniques.
  14. Review operating manuals for the Pharmacy unit.
  15. Perform periodic spot checks for controlled and narcotic drugs.
  16. Comply with infection control procedures.
  17. Educate patients and families as per their needs and document in patient medical record.
  18. Implement patient and family education process.
  19. Involve patients and families in the plan of care.
  20. Provide health promotion and health teaching appropriate to patients’ needs.
  21. Perform additional tasks and duties as assigned.

Preferred Candidate:

  1. B.S. Pharmacy Graduate.
  2. Licensed Pharmacist, according to laws and regulations.
  3. Minimum of two (2) years experience as a Pharmacist in a large acute care hospital.
  4. Proficient in the use and application of new medications and technology.
  5. Problem solving ability and analytical thinking preferred.
  6. Customer service skills and professionalism.
  7. Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  8. Fluency in verbal and written English for Arabic and Non-Arabic speakers.
  9. Computer literate.
