Job Description:The Occupational Therapist is accountable for upholding standards of practice for themselves and subordinate staff within designated clinical areas. Responsibilities encompass managing a caseload; conducting assessments; formulating, implementing, and evaluating treatment programs for service users in accordance with established service standards; and participating in integrated discharge planning. The Occupational Therapist will oversee the daily operations of designated service areas, including staff supervision, work prioritization and allocation, and the promotion of positive staff morale and teamwork, in conjunction with the Occupational Therapy Lead. Professional relationships with colleagues, managers, and healthcare personnel are to be cultivated and maintained. The quality of documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, reports, and discharge summaries, must adhere to local service and professional standards. Assessment results, treatment/intervention programs, and recommendations will be communicated verbally and/or in writing to the team and relevant parties, consistent with service policy. Participation in teams, communication, and collaboration with team members are expected. Attendance at review meetings, team meetings, and case conferences, as designated by the Occupational Therapy Lead, is required. Adherence to existing standards and protocols, as well as the development and maintenance of standards/strategies for quality improvement and outcome measurement, are essential. Guidance and support should be sought for assigned duties, aligning with principles of evidence-based practice and clinical governance. The Occupational Therapist must uphold professional standards regarding confidentiality, ethics, and relevant legislation, and operate within the scope of the Occupational Therapy practice job description. The provision of a high-quality Occupational Therapy service and the execution of clinical and educational duties are integral to the role.
Regarding education and training, the Occupational Therapist will participate in continuous professional development, including in-service training, attendance at conferences/courses relevant to practice, and contribution to research, as agreed upon by the Occupational Therapy Lead and Medical Director. Engagement in support/supervision with the Occupational Therapist Manager and participation in performance reviews are also expected, along with participation in the teaching/training/supervision of Occupational Therapy and non-Occupational Therapy staff/students.
Concerning health and safety, the Occupational Therapist will promote a safe working environment compliant with Health and Safety legislation, and implement agreed policies, procedures, and safe professional practices by adhering to relevant legislation, regulations, and standards. Active participation in risk management, including risk identification and appropriate action, is crucial. Adverse incidents must be reported in accordance with organizational guidelines.
Administratively, the Occupational Therapist is responsible for coordinating and delivering service in designated areas, reviewing and allocating resources in collaboration with the Occupational Therapy Lead, promoting good working practices and uniform standards of best practice, and promoting quality by regularly reviewing and evaluating the Occupational Therapy service, identifying changing needs and improvement opportunities, in collaboration with the Occupational Therapy Lead. The development and implementation of service/business plans, quality initiatives, audits, etc., and reporting on outcomes in collaboration with the Occupational Therapy Lead, are required. Data about the service user group should be collected and evaluated to demonstrate the achievement of service objectives. The upkeep of accurate records, in accordance with best clinical governance, organizational requirements, and the Freedom of Information Act, is essential, as is the rendering of reports and other information/statistics as required. The Occupational Therapist will represent the department/team at meetings and conferences as appropriate, liaise with the Occupational Therapy Lead regarding the needs, interests, and views of the department, promote good team working and a culture that values diversity, participate in the management of Occupational Therapy stock and equipment in conjunction with the Occupational Therapist Manager, engage in IT developments pertinent to service user and service administration, and remain current with organizational developments. The performance of other duties appropriate to the office, as assigned by the Occupational Therapy Lead, may be required.
Eligibility criteria include a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy, a minimum of 2 years of satisfactory post-qualification clinical experience, possession of a relevant professional license, and demonstrable command of English and Arabic sufficient to effectively carry out the duties and responsibilities of the role.
