MEP Designer – Mechanical

Role OverviewThe MEP Designer (Mechanical) is responsible for developing complete mechanical design packages for retail, F&B, hospitality, and commercial projects. The role requires strong technical expertise in HVAC, plumbing, firefighting, and mechanical calculations, along with the ability to produce accurate, code-compliant drawings. The designer will work closely with internal teams, consultants, contractors, and authorities to ensure all designs are aligned with project requirements, fit-out standards, and UAE authority regulations.Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical Design & CalculationsDevelop full mechanical design packages including HVAC, ventilation, plumbing, drainage, and firefighting systems.Prepare detailed engineering calculations such as heat load, ventilation rates, CFM sizing, ESP calculations, pump head calculations, and pipe sizing.Verify all design outputs to ensure compliance with UAE codes, NFPA, ASHRAE, and local authority requirements.Review and validate consultant and contractor submissions for accuracy and coordination.Drawings & Technical DocumentationProduce mechanical drawings including HVAC layouts, duct routing, chilled water layouts, plumbing and drainage drawings, pump rooms, LPG systems where applicable, and firefighting layouts.Prepare mechanical BOQs, technical specifications, and design notes.Ensure all drawings are coordinated with architectural, structural, electrical, ELV, and kitchen drawings.Authority ComplianceEnsure designs comply with all relevant authorities such as DCD, DM, DEWA, Dubai Municipality, Trakhees, DDA, and other jurisdictions.Support the submission process and address authority comments until approval is obtained.Project CoordinationAttend design coordination meetings with internal teams, consultants, and contractors.Review site conditions to validate design feasibility and provide design clarifications when required.Support project teams during execution to ensure design intent is followed.Quality Assurance & VerificationConduct internal design checks and ensure all drawings and calculations undergo verification before issuance.Identify design risks early and propose practical engineering solutions.Qualifications & SkillsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.Minimum 5–7 years of experience in mechanical design for fit-out, F&B, retail, or commercial projects in the UAE.Strong experience in mechanical calculations (HVAC, plumbing, firefighting).Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit experience is an advantage.Strong knowledge of UAE authority requirements and approval processes.Ability to interpret architectural, structural, MEP, and kitchen drawings.Excellent communication, technical writing, and coordination skills.Ability to work under tight timelines on multiple fast-track projects.Key CompetenciesTechnical accuracy and attention to detailStrong problem-solving and engineering judgementCoordination and multi-disciplinary collaborationTime management and meeting deadlinesProactive and solution-driven mindset
