Job Description: **Job Responsibilities:**
The incumbent is responsible for the effective planning, implementation, and assessment of instruction aligned with the British Columbia Ministry of Education Curriculum Learning Standards. This includes utilizing approved teaching strategies, resources, and instructional frameworks to create differentiated learning opportunities for students of varying skill levels and learning styles. The incumbent will organize and supervise enrichment activities, such as field trips and performances, at both the class and school levels. Clear communication of assignments and objectives is essential, as is the provision of age-appropriate homework that reinforces classroom learning. The incumbent will diagnose and address the specific needs of struggling students, collaborating with the School Support Program as necessary. Formative assessments will be used to monitor student progress, with regular feedback provided to students, parents, and administration. Active participation in grade-level and cross-grade-level team meetings is required to ensure consistent practices and enhance student achievement. The incumbent will prepare formal report cards and conduct parent conferences according to established timelines. Maintaining a fair and just learning environment in accordance with the school’s Code of Conduct is crucial. Supervision of students is required in the classroom, on campus, and at school-related events. The incumbent will also provide guidance and supervision to assigned classroom assistants. Accurate and complete record-keeping, as mandated by school policy, is required. Active participation in staff meetings, including those focused on student assessment data analysis, is expected. The incumbent will communicate effectively with colleagues, students, administration, parents, and the community in a professional and constructive manner, fostering positive relationships with parents to support student success. Demonstrating cultural sensitivity and respect is essential. Participation in school-organized professional development is required, as is attendance at up to eight Saturday school sessions per academic year.
**Working Hours and Additional Duties:**
The official working hours are from 6:30 am to 2:20 pm, with classes commencing at 7:00 am and concluding at 2:00 pm (1:10 pm for K2). Classroom teachers are expected to remain with students until their departure, typically 20-30 minutes after the end of classes. Teachers residing in school accommodation and utilizing school transportation are expected to be present from 6:30 am to 2:30 pm. Mandatory after-school collaboration meetings are held weekly from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Meetings with parents of at-risk students will be scheduled as needed outside of regular working hours. Non-teaching duties include preparation utilizing available school resources, administration of entry assessments for prospective students (primarily January-June and September-October, potentially 3-4 assessments per week during peak months), attendance at staff meetings and administrative events, and substituting for other BC teachers in emergency situations as requested by the Principal. The incumbent will also perform other related duties as required, which may include changes in teaching assignments based on school needs and the incumbent’s experience and subject matter expertise. The incumbent is required to commence the process of obtaining British Columbia teacher certification immediately upon acceptance of the job offer and provide all necessary documentation in a timely manner. Progress on certification must be reported to the school in detail. Failure to fulfill this requirement or obtain certification due to the incumbent’s inaction may result in contract termination.
