Job Description:**Logistics Dispatcher**
The Logistics Dispatcher serves as the central point of coordination for transportation operations, ensuring the efficient and compliant movement of goods. Responsibilities encompass the following key areas:
**I. Dispatch and Route Management:**
* **Strategic Planning and Scheduling:** Develop and optimize transportation routes and delivery schedules, taking into account driver availability, equipment capacity, delivery deadlines, traffic conditions, and relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., Hours of Service).
* **Load Procurement and Negotiation:** Secure freight and negotiate competitive rates with brokers to maximize profitability and optimize equipment utilization.
* **Driver and Equipment Assignment:** Accurately assign qualified drivers and appropriate equipment to loads based on suitability, delivery requirements, and geographical location.
* **Real-time Monitoring and Proactive Management:** Employ GPS and tracking systems to monitor vehicle location and shipment progress, proactively identifying and mitigating potential delays or issues.
**II. Communication and Coordination:**
* **Driver Communication:** Provide clear and concise dispatch instructions, load details, route information, and real-time updates to drivers through various communication channels.
* **Customer Communication:** Provide timely updates to customers regarding shipment status and estimated delivery times, proactively communicating any potential delays.
* **Internal Collaboration:** Coordinate effectively with warehouse personnel for loading and unloading schedules, and with the accounting department to ensure accurate billing and payroll processes.
**III. Operational Efficiency and Problem Solving:**
* **Issue Resolution:** Effectively manage and resolve unexpected operational challenges, such as traffic delays, mechanical issues, or delivery complications, to minimize disruption.
* **Equipment Optimization:** Strategically plan loads to maximize equipment utilization and minimize empty miles, contributing to overall operational efficiency.
* **Performance Tracking:** Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), such as target rate per mile and weekly revenue goals, to assess and improve dispatch effectiveness.
**IV. Compliance and Administration:**
* **Regulatory Adherence:** Ensure strict compliance with all applicable transportation regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS) rules, Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines, and company safety protocols.
* **Maintenance Coordination:** Facilitate communication between drivers and the maintenance department regarding equipment issues, coordinating necessary repairs and preventive maintenance.
* **Data Management:** Maintain accurate and current records within the Transportation Management System (TMS), including dispatches, driver assignments, delivery confirmations, equipment status, and incident logs.
* **TMS Proficiency:** Expertly utilize and optimize features within the transportation management system to enhance dispatch operations.
