**Position Summary:**

The incumbent of this position is responsible for the execution of professional duties as delineated herein, subject to prevailing circumstances and in accordance with the school’s policies, under the guidance of the Secondary Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) or Head of Secondary. **Key Responsibilities:**

**Learning and Teaching:**

* To foster an environment conducive to effective, confident, and independent lifelong learning for all students.
* To employ superior subject matter expertise, pedagogical skills, and interpersonal abilities to motivate students and facilitate exceptional learning experiences.
* To effectively utilize information and communication technology (ICT) and emergent technologies to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for students of all ages and attainment levels.
* To develop lesson plans that comprehensively address students’ individual learning needs, styles, preferences, and capabilities.
* To cultivate the intellectual, moral, spiritual, cultural, physical, and personal aptitudes of students within assigned classes and provide guidance on educational, social, and other relevant matters.
* To integrate UAE heritage and culture into the curriculum.
* To advise and collaborate with the Head of School and colleagues in the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, teaching schemes, instructional methodologies, assessment strategies, and pastoral care arrangements.

**Attainment and Progress:**

* To assess, record, and report on the development, progress, and attainment of students within assigned classes.
* To guide students in setting improvement targets and provide regular feedback to support ongoing learning progression.
* To maintain open and professional communication with parents regarding their child’s attainment and progress.

**Teamwork and Collaboration:**

* To cultivate and maintain excellent professional relationships with colleagues, contributing to the continuous improvement of the school.
* To plan and deliver a range of learning opportunities and activities to enrich and enhance the taught curriculum.
* To cooperate with colleagues in establishing and maintaining fair and consistent disciplinary practices within the classroom, throughout the school, and on school excursions, actively safeguarding students from all forms of abuse, including but not limited to racist, sexist, and corporal punishment.
* To contribute actively to departmental discussions during academic meetings.
* To actively support the school’s partnership with the community, including attendance at school/community events which may occur on weekends or evenings.
* To promote a positive school ethos aligned with the school’s vision and values, and a commitment to ensuring the wellbeing of students, staff, and the broader school community.

**Key Duties:**

* To collaborate with class teachers to improve the learning and achievement of students.
* To encourage students’ independence, self-esteem, and social inclusion.
* To provide individualized or group support to pupils so that they can access the curriculum, participate in learning, and experience a sense of achievement.
* To demonstrate a knowledgeable and effective approach to teaching and learning by employing strategies that support the work of the teacher and raise the accomplishment of all students, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
* To promote, encourage, and facilitate inclusion by promoting the engagement of all students in learning and extracurricular activities.
* To promote the instruction of a comprehensive and balanced curriculum aimed at students attaining their full potential in all fields of learning.
* To consistently use effective behaviour management strategies according to the school’s policy and procedures.
* To assist class teachers in upholding good order and discipline among pupils, managing behaviour successfully to ensure a good and safe learning environment.
* To arrange and manage teaching space and resources to assist in maintaining a stimulating and secure learning environment.
* To observe student performance and give observations to the class teacher.
* To supervise a class if the teacher is temporarily unavailable.
* To use ICT skills to advance pupils’ learning.
* To perform any other relevant tasks assigned by the class teacher.
* To contribute to effective evaluation and planning by assisting in the monitoring, recording, and reporting of student performance and progress as appropriate to the level of the role.
* To read and understand lesson plans shared prior to lessons, if available.
* To prepare the classroom for lessons.
* To communicate effectively with other staff members and pupils, and with parents and carers under the direction of the class teacher.
* To communicate their knowledge and understanding of pupils to other school staff and education, health and social care professionals, so that informed decision making can take place on intervention and provision.
* To contribute to meetings with parents and carers by providing feedback on pupil progress, attainment and barriers to learning, as directed by teachers.
* To keep other professionals accurately informed of performance and progress, or concerns they may have about the pupils they work with.
* To Understand their role in order to be able to work collaboratively with classroom teachers and other colleagues, including specialist advisory teachers
* To Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues and other relevant professionals within and beyond the school

**Skills, Qualifications and Experience**

**Education:**

* A high school or Bachelor’s degree in any subject preferably SEN

**Experience:**

* A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a school set up in SEN department.

**Competencies:**

* Demonstrable knowledge of the UK Curriculum and contemporary best practices.
* Proficiency in IT skills, communication skills, and command of the English language (both spoken and written).
* Proven ability as a collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
* Experience working with EAL, ELL, and SEND students.
* Strong classroom management capabilities.
