Job Description:Position: Laboratory Instructor – Civil and Architectural Engineering BITS-Pilani Dubai Campus BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus (BPDC), an international campus of Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, India, located in Dubai International Academic City, is seeking a qualified and dedicated Laboratory Instructor to join the Civil and Architectural Engineering Department. Established in 2000, BPDC is a pioneering institution in Dubai committed to providing high-quality engineering, technology, and management education. Job Summary: The Laboratory Instructor will be responsible for instructing laboratory courses within the Civil and Architectural Engineering Department, working in close coordination with faculty members assigned to each course. The successful candidate will ensure the effective delivery of lab sessions, maintain laboratory operations, and contribute to the overall educational experience of students. Key Responsibilities: Effective Teaching: Prepare and conduct engaging laboratory sessions, providing clear instructions and comprehensive support to students. Laboratory Operations Management: Oversee the daily operations of all laboratories, including scheduling, resource allocation, and ensuring a safe and productive learning environment. Curriculum Development: Collaborate with faculty members to design, update, and refine laboratory manuals and experiment protocols. Equipment Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections of laboratory equipment, implement a preventative maintenance schedule, and manage the procurement of new equipment as needed. Safety Compliance: Implement and enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, conduct comprehensive safety training sessions, and continuously monitor laboratory conditions to ensure a safe working environment. Student Support and Engagement: Provide guidance and assistance to students during laboratory sessions, support project planning activities, and facilitate student workshops to enhance learning and skills development. Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records of laboratory inventory, control the distribution of materials, and ensure adequate supply levels to support laboratory activities. Collaboration with Faculty: Foster strong communication and collaboration with faculty members, actively participate in departmental meetings, and support faculty-led initiatives to contribute to the overall success of the department. Required Competencies: Proficiency in the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment commonly used in civil engineering. Familiarity with relevant software applications utilized in civil engineering practices. Demonstrated ability to learn and develop expertise in new experimental methods and techniques. Comprehensive knowledge and training in laboratory safety practices and procedures. Proficiency in maintaining accurate records of laboratory inventories and materials. Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Ability to adapt and thrive in a cross-cultural environment. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team, with a dynamic, approachable, and reliable demeanor. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Exceptional organizational and time management skills. Commitment to continuous improvement and adherence to best practice principles. Educational Qualifications: Essential: Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering. Desirable: Master’s degree (M.E.) in any of the aforementioned disciplines.
