Job Description:
Position Summary:
The Emergency Department (ED) Duty Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Emergency Department during their shift. They ensure the smooth running of patient care, staff coordination, and adherence to hospital policies and protocols. The ED Duty Manager works closely with medical, nursing, and administrative teams to optimize patient flow, enhance quality of care, and manage emergency situations efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operational Management
-Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Emergency Department during the assigned shift.
-Ensure efficient patient flow from triage to discharge or admission.
-Coordinate with other hospital departments (e.g., Radiology, Laboratory, ICU, and Inpatient Units) for smooth patient transitions.
-Monitor and manage bed availability in the ED and liaise with inpatient units for patient admissions.
-Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and accreditation standards.
2. Staff Supervision & Coordination
-Lead and support ED staff, including nurses, physicians, and support personnel.
-Assign duties and ensure appropriate staff coverage based on patient acuity and volume.
-Address staff concerns and provide real-time guidance during critical situations.
-Conduct shift handovers and communicate key updates to incoming teams.
3. Patient Safety & Quality of Care
-Ensure adherence to triage protocols and timely patient assessment.
-Monitor critical cases and facilitate rapid decision-making in collaboration with ED physicians.
-Enforce infection control and patient safety protocols.
-Handle patient complaints or concerns, escalating when necessary.
4. Crisis & Incident Management
-Act as the primary point of contact for emergency situations and mass casualty incidents.
-Coordinate emergency response plans in collaboration with hospital leadership.
-Document and report incidents, adverse events, and near misses.
5. Administrative & Reporting Duties
-Maintain accurate records of patient flow, staffing issues, and operational challenges.
-Ensure proper documentation of incidents, patient transfers, and medical interventions.
-Prepare shift reports and communicate key operational updates to hospital management.
Skills:
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Healthcare Management, or a related field.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years in an emergency department, with leadership or supervisory experience.
Skills:
