**Reports To:** Principal
**Primary Objective:**
The AP English Teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous, high-level instruction designed to challenge students to meet and exceed College Board standards. This role requires the implementation of instructional practices that are consistent with the school’s mission and focused on preparing students for success in Advanced Placement English Language & Composition.
**Responsibilities:**
* Develop and implement a challenging AP English curriculum aligned with established standards, fostering the development of advanced reading, writing, and analytical proficiencies.
* Cultivate a structured and inclusive classroom environment where students feel supported in their academic growth and encouraged to reach their full potential.
* Differentiate instruction to accommodate the diverse learning needs of all students, ensuring comprehensive preparation for the AP examination.
* Utilize data-driven instructional strategies to monitor student progress, inform pedagogical decisions, and refine teaching methodologies.
* Provide targeted language support and scaffolding for Spanish-speaking students to facilitate their academic achievement and integration.
* Establish and maintain positive relationships with students and their families, with specific attention to fostering connections within the Spanish-speaking community.
* Collaborate with colleagues and school leadership to continuously improve the AP English curriculum and instructional practices across the institution.
* Actively participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and contribute to a culture of educational excellence.
* Provide consistent, high-quality instruction focused on developing students’ writing skills, critical reading comprehension, and analytical thinking abilities.
* Prepare detailed monthly lesson plans utilizing available school online resources, ensuring alignment with the established school curriculum.
* Implement a variety of teaching methodologies, including discussions, collaborative projects, and writing workshops, to actively engage students in the learning process.
* Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to accurately evaluate student progress and comprehension of course material.
* Provide timely and constructive feedback on student writing assignments, guiding them in refining their skills and effectively preparing for the AP exam.
**Qualifications:**
* Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
* Valid teaching certification and demonstrated experience in a high school setting, with specific expertise in teaching AP English Language & Composition.
* Comprehensive understanding of AP exam expectations and curriculum requirements as defined by the College Board.
* Prior experience teaching Advanced Placement courses is essential.
* Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills are required.
* Demonstrated proficiency in interpersonal relations.
