Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities
- Actively participates in all quality and performance improvement activities within the department/service and within the hospital as per Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Plan.
- Actively participates in all the education requirement and activities as per the Hospital Education Program.
- Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the scope of practice and employment contract.
- Maintains calm disposition in times of crisis or extreme pressure of work.
- Demonstrates self motivation and organization.
- Maintains confidentiality of all patient/staff communication.
- Assist with staff orientation to the unit.
- Participates in staff meetings and unit projects.
- Floats to other units as requested.
- Maintains flexible rostering
- Maintains a clean and tidy work environment.
- Makes suggestions/implements process improvements in daily work.
- Participates in unit continuous quality improvement (CQI) projects as required.
- Participates in ongoing customer service training and continuing education.
- Demonstrates efficiency in receiving and directing messages appropriately.
- Demonstrates telephone etiquette that includes a clear voice and courteous response.
- Demonstrates cultural sensitivity with customers.
- Performs additional duties as specified by Head Nurse or Charge Nurse.
- Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks ensuring effective functioning of the unit.
- Maintains patient files in correct order according to Medical Records guidelines / Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) standards
- Sends/receives faxes, photocopies.
- Interprets English to Arabic and vice versa.
- Assists the physician in obtaining treatment or operative consent by interpreting.
- Assists medical and nursing staff in speaking with patient in obtaining with admission history and physical examination.
- Interprets medical/nursing instructions to patients and their families.
- Assists the nurse with discharge procedure.
- Demonstrates efficiency on the Hospital Information System (HIS).
- Prepares admission packets.
- Maintains the nurse’s station and the unit in an orderly condition.
- Communicates with staff, patients, families and visitors in a professional and sensitive manner.
- Updates and maintains daily staffing sheets accurately.
- Delivers and collects various reports, supplies and equipment from other areas of the hospital.
- Schedules follow-up appointments as requested by the physician.
- Maintains/orders unit stationery/forms in conjunction with the Head Nurse.
- Maintains a supply of pre-collated patient documentation.
- Files all patient reports accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ensures all patient files are not left open on the desk / table tops and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
- Coordinates clerical portion of patient admissions and discharge.
- Demonstrates cooperation, coordination, and respect among individuals/departments in order to provide excellent customer service (internal and external).
- Escorts patients to other departments as needed.
- Actively participates in encouraging patients to complete patient satisfaction surveys.
- Responds promptly and positively to patients, families in a respectful, courteous and confidential manner.
- Gives report to oncoming Unit Clerk (UC).
- Communicates important information appropriately.
Skills
- English/Arabic proficiency essential.
- Computer literacy – can work with Word and PowerPoint and able to design graphs for statistical purposes.
- Medical terminology/or exposure to medical environment.
Education
