Coordinate and lead a self-referral Student Counselling service through establishing and managing the delivery of responsive, high-quality, and student-focused service for students.Handle the case management of a significant number of students presenting with diverse and complex sets of needs, ensure suitable confidential student case records are up to date and secure, and work closely with colleagues across the University to ensure that any recommendations are fully implement. This includes providing assessment and risk assessment for students presenting to the Student Counselling Service.Establish and monitor inclusive practices and policies across the University to support students presenting with a range of mental health and wellbeing issues, and signpost students to other support services, both internally and externally, as necessary.Promote a culture of inclusivity within the University where appropriate. Work with colleagues from across Professional Services on educational programmes of awareness for both new and existing students on counselling and wellbeing. In addition, support academic and professional service staff in their pastoral role with studentsRefer student cases to, and liaise with, external specialist services as and when necessary to support and assess individual needs as well as assisting students in interactions with external providers as appropriate.Interact with parents and guardians, where appropriate, over student support needs and help to facilitate conversations around expectations and management of mental health and wellbeing challenges.Work closely with colleagues across the University to ensure collaboration and leverage of existing student support practice and ensure appropriate overlap with the central Student Services.Work closely with the Director of Student Services, and colleagues across Professional Services, in connection with a holistic portfolio of services in relation to causes for concern, aspects of Fitness to Study, Safeguarding and related matters to ensure that policies and procedures are in place and effectively implemented. This includes managing these processes in practice directly with students.Be a first point of contact within the institution for all Safeguarding and Student Wellbeing related concerns, this includes emergency and out of hours supports. In conjunction with colleagues across the University, develop and deliver training, for both students and staff, in relation to Safeguarding and Student Crisis.Assist in the promotion of the Counselling and Wellbeing services, as well as wider student support services, to improve the student experience for all BUE students.Produce regular written reports on numbers using the service outlying a general overview of the types of problems with which users of the service are presenting and any recommendations.Work proactively to ensure that students are engaging with the Counselling and Wellbeing services on offer and work towards widening participation where possible.Be aware of national and international best practice, issues and trends relating to young adults with mental health challenges and their pastoral care.In conjunction with the Director of Student Services periodically review the Counselling and Wellbeing services processes and procedures to ensure that they meet the needs of all students including Doctoral and postgraduate taught studentsBe proactively involved in the planning, organization and implementation of the wider Student Services and Student Hub activities and initiatives as necessary.Produce and update material for publication on the student hub webpages and student portal, as well as print media, related to Counselling and Wellbeing services and support.To undertake other duties and responsibilities as reasonably required by the Director of Student Services as and when necessary.

Job Requirements:Educational Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree at 2.1 level (or equivalent)Relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g. Masters/PhD)Relevant and accredited Professional Membership & License to Practice (e.g. BACP, BABCP, UKCP or equivalent, or fully registered HCPC Counselling Psychologist or equivalent)Experience:Minimum of five years relevant work experience.In-depth understanding of the requirements of international best practice in terms of Student Counselling and Wellbeing within an HE environmentExperience of developing strategies for Counselling and Wellbeing support services.Experience in the delivery of high standards of customer service within an employer facing or service delivery environment.Experience of significant casework management relating to students with complex needsExperience of leading change management within organizations, influencing cultural change in teams and breaking down barriers to effective working practices.An awareness of the range of needs of people from diverse cultural and social backgroundsAbility to take responsibility for and work towards resolving complex personal matters including handling situations of students in crisis.Technical Skills:Knowledge of inclusive teaching practices and the delivery of high-quality Counselling and Wellbeing servicesKnowledge of Higher Education regulations, processes and policies (preferably UK HE)Experience of specialist student support in an HE environment (preferably UK HE)
