The Product Management team at Canonical comprises technologists dedicated to delivering impactful products and solutions that shape market demands and promote the widespread adoption of open-source software. We are seeking a Product Manager to contribute to our Hardware Certification program. Candidates should demonstrate exceptional leadership, communication skills, and technical acumen to drive product strategy in alignment with future business needs.

While open source has a thirty-year history, it is now integral to the entire software landscape. We anticipate its continued expansion into specialized vertical markets. Our product managers establish the vision and direction to ensure timely delivery of appropriate products to relevant markets, pushing technological boundaries to identify and capitalize on new and existing opportunities.
We are currently recruiting a Product Manager for Hardware Certification. Ubuntu, a widely favored Linux distribution, is used by developers globally. Canonical offers a suite of products and services addressing key software development and deployment challenges. This role presents an exceptional opportunity for a driven technology leader to:
* Lead the roadmap for our Hardware Certification program and cultivate partnerships with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
* Collaborate with our engineering team to shape the development roadmap for our Hardware Certification scheme.
* Define future business models, considering the competitive landscape.
* Engage with the Ubuntu user community, key partners, OEMs, and leading customers to facilitate commercial success and drive go-to-market strategies.
This role entails product leadership and go-to-market strategy, ensuring the translation of product vision into actionable plans and successful market launches. Our product managers are technology professionals, ideally with software engineering backgrounds, who aspire to become business executives and entrepreneurs. We engage in strategic discussions, product development planning, drive engagement, and promote open-source principles. We oversee the entire product lifecycle, from conception to delivery, leveraging technical expertise, strategic thinking, analytics, project management skills, and effective communication to ensure products align with user needs and business objectives.
This is a remote position based in the EMEA region.
Responsibilities include:
* Leading the product development lifecycle, reviewing priorities and goals.
* Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, marketing, and sales.
* Addressing project challenges, aligning priorities, enabling informed decisions, and ensuring business execution.
* Conducting market research, analyzing industry trends, and gathering customer feedback to identify opportunities.
* Communicating product vision, updates, and decisions to ensure alignment and manage expectations.
* Conducting usability testing, analyzing user feedback, and iterating on the product to improve user experience.
* Collaborating with marketing, sales, and support teams to develop go-to-market strategies, create product documentation, and provide training.
* Contributing to sales team success by reviewing customer feedback and participating in customer meetings.
Ideal candidates will possess:
* Exceptional academic credentials.
* Understanding of Linux and the broader open-source software community.
* Knowledge of computer architecture, application development, data centers, cloud technologies, and devices.
* A passion for writing about technologies and the tech landscape.
* A strong work ethic and alignment with the open-source movement.
* Curiosity and a commitment to continuous learning.
* A strong sense of ownership.
* Problem-solving and innovation skills.
* Outstanding communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
* Willingness to travel internationally up to four times a year for company events lasting up to two weeks.
Desired Skills:
* Familiarity with the technology ecosystem, including Silicon, IHV, ISV, ODM/OEMs, and cloud service providers.
* Familiarity with embedded and connected device technology and ecosystems.
* Experience building a certification program.
