**University Hospitals** seeks a qualified Patient Access Representative I to join our team at the Medina facility. At University Hospitals, our mission is to Heal, To Teach, To Discover. **Position Summary:**

The Patient Access Representative serves as the initial point of contact for patients and their families, providing essential support and ensuring accurate and efficient patient processing. This role involves direct interaction with patients, families, and healthcare providers, requiring exceptional customer service skills and attention to detail. The successful candidate will be responsible for verifying patient information, managing inquiries, and facilitating a smooth patient experience, thereby impacting both the revenue cycle and patient satisfaction.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**

* Check-in and check-out patients for medical appointments.
* Answer telephone calls, address patient inquiries, and schedule appointments.
* Assist patients with enrollment and utilization of MyChart.
* Enter, update, and validate patient demographic, insurance, and financial information.
* Communicate pertinent information to the medical care team.
* Contact insurance companies regarding coverage, preapprovals, and billing issues.
* Collect and process patient payments for co-pays, co-insurance, deductibles, and prior balances.
* Assist with the completion of paperwork and forms.
* Manage EPIC work queues, worklists, and in-basket messages.
* Schedule referrals and follow-up visits.
* Accurately and promptly scan documents into EPIC.

**Additional Responsibilities:**

* Collaborate with team members and providers to enhance patient experience and departmental efficiency.
* Participate in emergency preparedness initiatives.
* Maintain a clean and organized work area.
* Perform other assigned duties, including cross-training for various responsibilities.
* Adhere to all organizational policies, standards, and requirements for maintaining the security of Protected Health Information (PHI).

**Qualifications:**

* **Education:** High School Diploma or GED (Required). Associate’s Degree or progress towards degree (Preferred). Knowledge of Medical Terminology (Preferred).
* **Experience:** Minimum of one year of customer service experience (Required). Two or more years of customer service experience in a healthcare setting (Preferred).
* **Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**

* Understanding of confidentiality.
