Overview

**This position is physically located in Iraq in support of LOGCAP**

  • Under the supervision of the Maintenance Mechanic Lead and/or Supervisor, the Maintenance Mechanic, performs the full range of field-level overhaul work on chassis group units of one or more types of vehicles powered by internal combustion engines, gasoline or multi- fuel. Maintain wheeled vehicles, their associated trailers and material handling equipment systems.

  • Performs the full range of repair and modification work on heavy/light equipment and vehicles powered by internal combustion engines.
  • Inspecting, servicing, maintaining, repairing, replacement, adjusting and testing of wheeled vehicles and material handling equipment systems, subsystems and components
  • Service automotive electrical systems including wiring harness, and starting and charging systems.
  • Examine vehicles to determine extent of damage or malfunctions.
  • Test drive vehicles, and test components and systems, using equipment such as infrared engine analyzers, compression gauges, and computerized diagnostic devices.
  • Repairs, relines, replaces, and adjusts brakes.
  • Follows checklists to ensure all important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, and other potentially troublesome areas.
  • Follows repair procedures, using charts, and technical manuals.
  • Tests and adjusts repaired systems to meet military performance specifications.
  • Performs routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups.
  • Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear, using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
    • Must be CAC eligible and/or able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC)
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen
    • Apprenticeship in Light/Heavy Automobile Repair, Automotive Mechanic or similar preferred
  • Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination:

    • To be qualified for this position you must comply with USCENTCOM MOD 16 that requires proof that you are fully vaccinated for COVID-19, as defined by the CDC or host country requirements. As of now, to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 you must have received either two doses of Pfizer BioNTech Vaccine, two doses of AstraZeneca/Oxford Vaccine, two doses of Moderna Vaccine, or one dose of Johnson & Johnson Vaccine, and two weeks must have elapsed after the final dose was administered. This definition may change in accordance with CDC guidelines. Compliance with this government requirement is an essential function of the position and is a condition of employment.

  • Experience:
    • Approximately two (2) years experience as an electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems maintenance mechanic
  • OCN Qualifications/Experience Requirements:
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Minimum five years of technical experience.
    • Must be able to read/write and speak English.
    • Vast knowledge in motor vehicle troubleshooting using computerized equipment to determine the fault before repair.
  • Skills:
    • Must have knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
    • Familiar with the use of computer based technical manuals preferred.
    • Must have the ability to read schematics.
    • The ability to troubleshoot, determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
    • Must have excellent communications skills, both written and oral, in English.
    • Requires a collaborative work style, fostering cooperation, and teamwork.
    • Must exercise discretion and good sound judgment.
    • Must have good understanding in the use of MS Office other related application
  • Working Conditions:
    • Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, dry, duty, desert environment with average temperatures of 30 degrees in the winter and 130 degrees in the summer months).
    • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
    • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
