The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent international humanitarian organization. It runs a Regional Communication Centre (RCC) in Cairo that works in close cooperation its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and with 17 offices in the Middle East and Africa. Tasks:The Digital Officer is part of RCC team in Cairo and works closely with colleagues in ICRC delegations in the Middle East, some in Arabic-speaking Africa, and with the headquarters in Geneva.Digital planningUnder the supervision of senior digital officer, support the efforts of the RCC to develop and execute digital strategies for Arabic language digital content, as per organizational priorities, and part of a larger effort of managing the organisation’s global reputation, specifically on key humanitarian crises in the region.Manages local/regional social media accounts using accepted best practices, develops digital projects, engaging with and delivering content to priority audiences. Ensures accurate, timely and effective delivery of digital content, optimized for search and audience engagement, partnering with Audiovisual Producers, Graphic Designers, Senior Digital Officer, Deputy Head of the RCC, and digital officers at delegations. Conducts evaluations of the success of digital content initiatives after publication and produces social media reports. Support the efforts of the RCC in planning and promoting Arabic language content through engaging content, campaigning, and paid promotion. Be aware of, and report on the different digital engagement metrics, and take a lead in proposing strategies to maximize the exposure and impact of the ICRC’s digital Arabic language content.Support generation of periodical quantitative and qualitative reports, analyzing and measuring the performance of Arabic digital content and the progress of channels, identifying areas of success, and adjusting plans/strategies accordingly.Identify opportunities for digital content testing, implementing activities to evaluate and understand audience behavior and engagement.Develop, maintain, and strengthen mutually beneficial relationships with ICRC units and delegations, and key stakeholders where relevant, building the reputation and positioning of digital communications as a strategic function of the ICRC.Content generation: Under the supervision of the Senior Digital Officer, contribute to the RCC’s Cairo editorial planning, and the process of generating a broad variety of Arabic language content for the digital platforms managed by the RCC. Support the efforts of the RCC in planning and organizing the ongoing effort to create, edit, repurpose, and deliver a wide variety of engaging content for digital channels, targeting a variety of key audiences, including the general public, using audio-visual products (videos, photos, etc.); provides the archives with appropriate versions of these digital materials for reusePrepare the scheduling and posting of digital content calendar in Arabic for all the ICRC platforms (Social media and website) managed by the RCC.Maintain contact with regional and Geneva based PR, and DIGITAL as well as communication departments of Middle Eastern and Arabic-speaking delegations in Africa to generate new online content. Regularly participates to planning meetings to coordinate digital content creation or conversion in Arabic a timely manner.Coaching/training and guidance: Support the Senior Digital Officer to build capacity and internal knowledge of delegations on content development and audience engagement.Provides guidance to colleagues on setting up and managing their own channels and accepted best practice. Train, coach and follow up communication departments managing their country-based social media platforms in Arabic, their country-page on icrc.org/ar, and advise on best practices.
Job Requirements :
University education in communication, marketing or journalism, preferably with a digital background and specialization (managing websites, social media platforms, video projects, etc.).3-5 years of work in a similar field.Fluent in written and spoken Arabic and English; French an asset.Good communication and writing/editing skills.Skilled computer user of web publishing (content management systems, including Drupal and/or WordPress); Familiarity with ad management (Google Ads, Facebook, Twitter).Experience in web editing and familiarity with search engine optimizationExperience in publishing and engaging using social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).Capacity to analyze the political and social environment.Excellent ability to communicate about technical matters to audiences in training settings.
