Job Description
A building supervisor is responsible for maintaining every part of the buildings and grounds where they are employed; managing employees; coordinating schedules; and enforcing all property policies.
His/her job description entails assisting in ensuring a safe working environment throughout the facility for all employees, and assisting in monitoring employee productivity, and providing suggestions for increased service or productivity.
The building supervisor assesses maintenance and repair needs on all mechanical systems and equipment and performs light maintenance tasks, as well as evaluates and supervises building staff, assigns work tasks, and trains new employees.
They are involved in addressing complaints from residents within the building, and making decisions to resolve these complaints as they arise.
They are also responsible for managing community areas within the building property and prepare them for scheduled events.
It is also the job of a building supervisor to enforce building security and safety policies, and train staff members on proper policy protocols, as well as manage all emergency situations.
Skills
- Supervising and participating in preventive maintenance of buildings, including floors, walls, ceilings, doors, windows, locks, fixtures, and furniture
- Supervising the performance of all student employees on duty and enforcing employee policies
- Checking grounds, buildings and equipment, and recording need for repair and replacements and reporting the same
- Providing clear and complete documentation of all activities within facility and giving orientations to rental groups as necessary
- Enforcing building and safety regulations, notifying proper maintenance personnel when facility problems arise and communicating to staff and patrons through communication systems
- Attending all meetings, training, and in-services as required, and being receptive to professional and personal development
- Planning and conducting a preventive maintenance program; training new employees; maintaining adequate levels of janitorial and maintenance supplies; as well as keeping records and preparing reports
- Working with student employees to maintain a clean and safe facility and ensuring duties are completed.
